“All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.” Martin Luther King, Jr.
This quote of Martin Luther King, Jr. was impressive and thought provoking for me as a teenager in the 1960s. It became a guiding force for my choice of vocation—education!
Patricia (Patty) Holubec and husband Larry moved to New Braunfels in 2012, after both retired from their jobs in South Texas. The Holubecs have been members of Saints Peter & Paul Parish since July 2012. Patty and Larry are the parents of two very special daughters and grandparents of two fantastic grandsons.
Patty was classroom educator, a Reading Specialist, and served as an administrator, primarily as a principal, for 20 years in both elementary and high school. Patty’s love of people and providing education to the “every man” has been more of a vocation than a career. She retired after 35 years as an educator/ administrator. In retirement, Patty continues to work with Alamo Colleges Adult Education IBEST Program as Instructional Coach and Professional Development Coordinator. Next year will be her 45th year in education, which spanned from Kindergarten to Adult Education.
Patty graduated from Texas A&I University Kingsville, now Texas A&M University Kingsville, in 1977 with a bachelor’s degree in Education. In 1987 Patty received her master’s degree in Curriculum & Instruction with Reading Specialist certification from Corpus Christi State University, now Texas A&M Corpus Christi. Additional graduate hours resulted in School Administration and Superintendency certifications.
In retirement Patty is blessed to have time to volunteer. Patty has been a volunteer for Saints Peter and Paul Thrift Store since 2015. She spent 3 years from 2018-2020 serving on Saints Peter and Paul Parish Council, followed by encouragement to become a member of Saints Peter and Paul School Advisory Council in the fall of 2020, for which she serves as Secretary. With Patty’s varied experiences she hopes to continue to share in the “labor that uplifts humanity...undertaken with painstaking excellence.”
